Fourteen local military support organizations in California emphasized the unique attributes of the state’s air, sea and land ranges, and its 30-plus installations in a letter to Senator-elect Kamala Harris (D) urging her to seek a seat on the Senate Armed Services Committee. Supporting California’s defense assets, its host communities and the military personnel and their families stationed there requires leadership at all levels of government, the Dec. 9 letter states. “Serving on this distinguished committee will allow you to remain at the forefront of the important issues that will shape the future of our defense infrastructure in California, and support our military families for years to come,” it says. Harris, who will fill the Senate seat of the retiring Barbara Boxer (D), currently is California’s attorney general.
